Disastrous holidays.

Week 14th – 16th April

Hello everybody! How was your weekend?

I hope it was nice. Mine was busy and boring. I was busy because I had to do a lot of things. And boring because none of those things were funny, amusing or interesting!!!!

What did we do last week?

We finished talking about definitions and we listened to the quiz show. You weren’t very good at it!
In the quiz, the contestant (the person who played the game) had to guess six words. The presenter read the definitions of the words on the cards. The time was two minutes. The definitions couldn’t contain the word defined. For example, if the word was taxi – driver, the words taxi or drive couldn’t be in the definition. As Laura put it (said), ‘That’s Taboo’.

Then, we read about three people talking about their holidays.

The destinations were perfect but the holidays turned out (have as a result) to be a disaster!
For Tim, his disastrous holidays took place (happened) when he was 17. The destination was perfect: Brittany in France. The problem was that he had to go with his parents and he had preferred to go with his friends!
Gabriela from Rome wanted to escape from the hot summer in Italy going with her partner to Sweden. Unfortunately, that summer there was a heatwave (extremely hot temperatures for a long period of time) in Sweden, which is a country that isn’t prepared for hot weather. They spent their holidays arguing all the time!
Kelly, from Belfast. She broke up (break a relationship; separate) with her boyfriend. She felt depressed and decided to go somewhere beautiful like the Seychelles islands. The travel agent didn’t tell her that the destination was romantic and the favourite of couples on their honeymoon! (the journey couples go on after their wedding). So, she felt even more depressed!
The people used the past. Do you remember the past simple tense? You can revise it with these videos.

See you on Tuesday!!!
